A while ago Ruth, Pennie and myself happened upon the idea of doing a Podcast together; we all often find ourselves on a stage, in front of an audience, microphone or camera talking to people and thought that a conversational style podcast from our three perspectives...which each happen to be a decade apart...might be interesting enough to listen to!

As is often the way with a new project, it took us a while to research and figure out how you go about setting-up, recording and publishing a podcast, but we seemed to figure it out pretty well, which just left us with the toughest conundrum of what to call it!

I'm very pleased to say we managed to settle on a name and that our Throw Starfish Podcast is live and you can hear the first Episode explaining why we've picked the name we have here.

The story is a powerful one that I first came across back in November 2006 on a residential training program, away at a Youth Hostel in Edale with Learn to Lead...it was told at the end of a days training over the weekend by my leadership training mentor Krish Raval and has stuck with me since.

I really do believe that the only way the world can be changed is one person at a time and that there is the most incredible amounts of Power in Small Actions. To illustrate and explain this I talk about Drew Dudley's 'Lollipop Leadership talk' for TEDxToronto in Canada which I often use in my training sessions, as I think it gives the most beautiful insight into Everyday Leadership.

He finishes with a wonderful line that really captures the Throw Starfish story:

We’ve made leadership about changing the world. And there is no world - there’s only six billion understandings of it. And if you change one person’s understanding of it, one person’s understanding of what they’re capable of, one person’s understanding of how much people care about them, one person’s understanding of how powerful an agent for change they can be in this world, you change the whole thing.
— Drew Dudley

This is now in excess of 7.45billion understandings of it...and counting as you can see on the World Population 'Clock' here!
